Dry mouth: As is the case with many other hemp- and marijuana-based products, CBD oil often leads to a condition known as dry mouth (or cottonmouth). This is likely due to cannabinoids altering receptors in the lower jaw that trigger salivation. In most cases, mild discomfort and stronger-than-average thirst are the only issues associated with dry mouth.
Watch Out For: Companies who won’t disclose their extraction method or utilize hydrocarbons like butane and propane. These substances are toxic in high amounts and even with proper purging, most hydrocarbon extracts contain residual solvent. Other extraction methods do not result in a full spectrum extract – meaning they were not able to extract all of the beneficial compounds from the hemp plant (i.e. you don’t get the full range of benefits).
During CPC, raw oil is run through a centrifuge. The oil is pushed through a series of cells that contain a mixture of liquids such as water, methanol, or heptane. Each compound diffuses into one of the liquids depending on their affinity to it; the compounds separate into different cells along the way. The compact CPC unit uses over one thousand extraction cells in a high-speed spinning disk pack to separate and purify the desired compound. Each cell increases the purity of the desired compound until a high purity product is created.
The human body also produces cannabinoids, known as endocannabinoids, in a bodily system known as the endocannabinoid system (or ECS). The ECS promotes homeostasis by regulating a wide range of functions, including motor skills, mood, appetite, and sleep. As we age, our ECS produces fewer endocannabinoids; they may also decrease due to physical injury or disease. Replenishing depleted endocannabinoids with phytocannabinoids like CBD can help restore balance to the body.
A supercritical CO2 extractor passes Carbon Dioxide through CBD Oil and plant material to extract and isolate the Cannabidiol cannabinoid. The process removes all plant matter including the oils, waxes, fatty acids, chlorophyll and more. The result is pure CBD. To activate that CBD, the extraction is decarboxylated, or heated, so that the acidic form of the cannabinoid (CBDa) will convert to the non-acidic form (CBD).

Put simply, CBD isolate is CBD in its purest form. The process of making CBD isolate, which we’ll discuss in more detail below, separates (or isolates) the CBD from all the other stuff that makes up the marijuana plant. Hence the name CBD isolate. It’s very much akin to the almost-100-percent pure THC distillate that’s making the rounds of the canna-community.
CBD isolate is derived from the hemp plant via various processes. These processes make extraction and isolation of CBD possible. Typically, the process of producing CBD isolate starts with growing hemp organically. This is not the cannabis strain that gets users high. The isolate is produced from a commercial-grade, industrial hemp. Basically, this is the cannabis that is grown to produce maximum biomass. It’s important to note that hemp is different from marijuana that is found in the streets and used by people that want to get high. However, both hemp and marijuana are technically similar plants. The only difference is that hemp has THC in low amounts and CBD in high amounts.

There’s a growing body of scientific evidence to support the use of topical CBD products to ease pain, inflammation, and the symptoms of arthritis. One study using rats found that topical CBD has “therapeutic potential for relief of arthritis pain-related behaviours and inflammation without evident side-effects.” More scientific research on humans is needed to confirm all of CBD’s benefits, but the initial research into topical use in humans is also promising.
